The Skills Coach Behind this Project

Christine Green’s background in psychology, her teaching experience and curriculum development, self-development work combined with a creative, curious mind, and ability to see alternative perspectives, are the cosmic forces that converged to produce this material.

For decades, Christine has been involved with various organizations and communities where she gained an understanding of group process and learned a bit about facilitation.

Christine studied counseling and psychology at Lesley University. In the 1990s she was the director of a Vocational Rehab Program for adults with psychiatric challenges. During her years as a clinician, Christine became aware of the cognitive and emotional struggles that many people experience.

As a supervisor, she observed the intricacies of staff behavior as they interacted with each other, the clients they counseled, and with her as a supervisor.

She noticed weaknesses in the essential life skills of both clients and staff. The difference was simply the degree of proficiency. She saw the need for skills building related to personal boundaries, assertiveness, emotional regulation, and the nuances of effective communication.

Her training in the rehab model (unlike the medical model of mental health) resulted in a skills development approach to client health and success.

Her creative thinking skills and intuitive sense made Christine an effective counselor and coach. She assessed the needs of clients, helped them develop practical, attainable goals, and taught them the skills needed to achieve those goals. Her clients made progress and she soon found herself training staff and other program directors on how to develop effective client-centered treatment plans.

After years of using this model in a psych rehab program, it was a predictable next step to become a Life Coach. Christine completed the Coaches Training Institute program and started her professional coaching practice in 2001.

In 2002 Christine was certified as a Relationship Coach for Singles and launched her business Conscious Courtship. She ran seminars that taught singles how to improve their dating partner selection skills and the relational life skills.

Christine explains how this project came to be

I’ve been fascinated by relational dynamics and group process for as long as I can remember.

I understand the material presented on this site, but I am by no means an expert or even the best role model. I work on my communication skills and I’m pretty good at catching myself when I’m short with someone. I offer a full apology when needed and do so without excuses.

What I believe stands above the rest, is the skill of self-awareness and the virtue of humility.

My friends and colleagues might argue my level of humility but I’m referring to the willingness to admit when we’re wrong and take responsibility for it.

The skills taught on this site are skills of maturity – the skills of healthy adulthood that many of us didn’t learn because we had no one to teach us or we never fully grew up.

We see the disturbing reality around us – the childish, inappropriate, and even mean-spirited behavior of some people we know and specific public figures.

Why Didn’t We Grow Up?
There are various reasons why our development into an emotionally mature adult may have been stifled. Some of us experienced abuse or neglect that became an obstacle to learning all the skills of a grownup. Others didn’t have opportunities, good role models or mentors.

It’s Never Too Late to Have a Happy Adulthood
The good news is that these skills can be learned.

There is one prerequisite, however – Willingness. Sadly, there are people in the world who are unwilling – folks who mistakenly believe they’ve already mastered the skills they need. The people who have difficulty taking an honest look at themselves and hence are not “teachable.”

But guess what? YOU are not one of them. How do I know?
Because you’re on this website!

P.S. I’m a big fan and a student of Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication Model. The material on this site is fully aligned with NVC.

The work you do here will make NVC easier to learn and if you have experience with NVC you’ll take to this material.
